Planning Application Information

Internal Drainage Boards are operating authorities as referred to in Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government Guidance “Flood Risk and Coastal Change” and flood risk management authorities as described in the National Planning Policy Framework.

Although IDB’s are non-statutory consultees, Local Planning Authorities will consult with IDB’s in relation to drainage matters. In many instances a new development will be discharging into or affecting IDB adopted watercourses so it’s important the Boards comments are made to remind developers that the IDB’s Land Drainage Consent will be required. It should be noted that the IDB’s have their own statutory powers which may prevent development proceeding.
