Geographic Information Systems Technician & Asset Inspector Vacancy
Would you like to work with a small friendly team and get involved in asset inspections and ArcView GIS for the important area of flood risk and water level management?
The Bedford Group of Drainage Boards manage water levels and flood risk in the Upper River Great Ouse catchment through north Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire & Huntingdon, which is an area of high growth and development. We are actively involved in maintaining and improving watercourses; advising planning authorities about flood risk, SuDS and development; liaising with flood risk management authorities; and consenting.
We are now looking for a GIS & Asset Inspection Officer to join us. The work is interesting and varied. Your main role will involve keeping the Boards’ ArcGIS and asset management system up to date for effective use by internal colleagues, as well as liaising with partners for data and information. You will be undertaking watercourse asset inspections and helping monitor the maintenance programme. You will also assist with reviewing planning applications and land drainage consenting.
You will have experience and knowledge of GIS mapping systems and asset management. Ideally, some experience of flood risk and watercourse management, engineering, and computer software (Microsoft office, CAD) would be advantageous, but training and CPD will be provided. The Bedford Group’s office is based in Stewartby, Bedfordshire and this role will require driving within the Boards district for meetings and inspections.
