Winter 2020/21
Our catchment has suffered one of the wettest winters on record and since early October when over 90mm of rain fell on the Upper Ouse catchment, the ground has been super saturated. Areas of Central Bedfordshire had over 112mm rain in the month of January, over 2.5 times the rainfall average for Bedford.
Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire suffered the most rainfall in the months of December and January since 1915.
Our Land Drainage Operatives have spent over 600 hours of December and January responding to incidents and flooding including clearing trash screens, inspections, removing blockages and emergency pumping.
As well as working with the Local Resilience Forum, the Boards engineers are assisting local councils in carrying out section 19 flood assessments as well as attending meetings with the Environment Agency and Anglian Water.
